This course is designed to provide a hands on introduction to basic biology concepts. If you are looking for a lab to complement Biology 101, this is it. We will start off with scientific measurement and cell biology, examine cell processes like mitosis and osmosis, move on to heredity, show how DNA functions, and finish off with evolution and ecology.
Note that if you have taken Biology 161, you should not enroll in this course, as Bio 102 covers many of the same laboratory exercises in Bio 161. In some cases, Biology 161 and 102 may be substituted for each other.
The textbook for the course is a paper bound volume entitled "Laboratory Exercises for Biology 102" (1st Edition: Wilson & Martin, Eds) and was published in 2007 by UMUC. This manual is much less expensive than the previous one, and is written by UMUC Asia faculty to suit our needs. Some copies may have a plastic ring binding. Do not purchase a used copy of the text, as some pages may have been removed to hand in assignments. Please consult the current course syllabus for details on lab assignments, grading, and other information.
